Snake bites 7-year-old along Clayton hiking trail

CLAYTON — A 7-year-old child went by helicopter to a Walnut Creek hospital on Wednesday, after he was bitten by a snake, according to fire officials.Officials did not have an update on the boy’s condition Thursday morning.Contra Costa Fire Protection District units and the California Highway Patrol were called to the Bruce Lee Trail about 4 p.m., officials said. They could not confirm that it was a rattlesnake that bit the child.“There was definitely a snake bite, and all the symptoms were such that it could’ve been one,” fire spokesperson Steve Hill said. “We didn’t see the snake.”According to Hill, fire crews were dispatched for a “limited access rescue,” which Hill said generally means somebody needs help on a trail. BMX star Pat Casey dies in crash at Southern California motocross park

BMX professional rider Pat Casey died in an accident Tuesday at a motocross park in San Diego County, the county medical examiner’s office confirmed.Casey, 29, crashed while riding a motorcycle at a private track known as the Slayground, in the hills above Ramona. Paramedics who were called to the park at 2:30 p.m. found him without a pulse. San Francisco man charged with anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes after Castro attack

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Hate crime charges were filed against a San Francisco man accused of throwing glass at victims in the Castro neighborhood.Muhammed Abdullah, 20, followed two men, ages 40 and 58, shouted aggressive anti-LGBTQ+ language at them, and threw a glass object that struck the 40-year-old man, according to police and prosecutors. The incident happened on the afternoon of June 5, on 18th and Hartford streets. Officers found Abdullah in Dolores Park and arrested him after a foot chase. Prosecutors charged Abdullah with assault with a deadly weapon, battery, violation of a person's civil rights, and special allegations for hate crimes.The alleged hate crime occurred while San Francisco is celebrating Pride Month and an LGBTQ+ flag is displayed at City Hall. (BCN) -- The commemorative Pride flag will not be flown at the County Administration Building in Stockton after a motion to do so was denied by the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. Listed on the agenda for the meeting was Supervisor Paul Canepa's recommendation to fly the Pride flag for five consecutive business days in support of Pride month. The Pride flag is a multi-colored flag that symbolizes the LGBTQ+ community. The motion was denied in a 3-2 vote with Supervisors Tom Patti and Steven Ding voting in opposition.
